ROOTS: Healing Journey Project

Thank you for contributing to the ROOTS Journey to Healing Project and our Africa Yoga Project endeavors. This project is important to me because it teaches life skills, coping mechanisms for trauma survivors, and is a platform to reconnect the African Diaspora.

Co-Founder, Erika Joseph-Graham is a former Military Police Officer and author of The Internal War: Search for Truth & Healing, a drama story with a splash of humor about healing from PTSD, sexual, and other traumas.

Through my own recovery journey, I traveled and grew in admiration for Marcus Garvey and his famous quote: A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.

Yoga has empowered me in so many ways, to be more flexible, to endure life's challenges and help others along the way. Everyday,  I practice improving myself on the mat which is projected in my life. When I try a new posture, or challenge myself a little more in my movements, I find myself overcoming challenges in life. I want to share this peace I have discovered with everyone I encounter.

ABOUT 2018 Teacher Training

You will have the opportunity to earn your 200 hour yoga teacher training certificate in Kenya while contributing to our mission of educating youth from East Africa through teacher training. Our goal is to train over 50 new yoga teachers!

Through this 12-day yoga teacher training and service trip to Kenya, you will experience exponential personal growth, practice and learn shoulder to shoulder, with new Africa Yoga Project teachers, emerging leaders and other powerful people from around the world while witnessing the energy of the organization’s programs in Nairobi.

If you have completed your 200Hour Certification through a Baptiste Affiliate Studio or Baptiste Power Yoga Institute, you might be eligible to participate as part of the Assisting Team for the 200hr Teacher Training. If you are interested please email programs@africayogaproject.org. In this module you will learn what it takes to generate and support a program.  A master teacher is able to both see the micro view of what the students in front of them need and have a macro view of the whole program.  We will work with the skills needed to take a macro view.  This begins with what it is to be on a team.  This is where we will concentrate our learning. You will work together to create a team that supports the students enrolled in the 200 hour program.
