I started doing yoga during a hard time in my life. I found something on my mat that I couldn't discover anywhere else.  The gift was simple, it was time set aside just for my own well being.  I had strong addictions that controlled me in ways I didn't even realize until I touched my forehead to the mat in my first ever child's pose. It's funny how I had looked at myself but couldn't find a true reflection of me before this moment.  Yes that's right, your yoga mat is a mirror!  This is where my journey began and I realized that change is not only possible but would be the most important and profound part of my life.  We can't control where we start but we are indeed powerful beyond measure. It is taking action to help ourselves and lift up others that reminds me why we are all here.

I completed my 200hr teacher training at FlyDog Yoga with Eliza Whiteman who at the time was studying with the Baptiste Institute.  Since my favorite teacher was working with Baron Baptiste, I knew I wanted a similar experience.  At Level One training I found the Africa Yoga Project  through Baron, Paige, Walter, and many other inspiring people who are up to things bigger than themselves.  I had to be a part of this!

I am now a mentor with AYP and have monthly Skype calls with my favorite person in Kenya. Her name is Maria and she is a yoga teacher that offers her community free local classes five days a week.  Maria is active with the Africa Yoga Project and loves teaching children in and around Nairobi.  As an Ambassador for AYP, I will raise awareness and money to support yoga teachers like Maria who are doing great things in their communities and being leaders of positive change throughout the world.

          I commit to this fundraising goal and look forward to traveling to Kenya and sharing this life changing experience with everyone!

AYP is a not-for-profit organization that helps educate, empower, elevate and expand employability with youth in Africa using the transformational practice of yoga. Based in Nairobi Kenya, it started in 2008 and today can boast that;

Over 6,000 people participate in more than 300 community yoga classes weekly in 80 locations.

More than 200 young people, trained as teachers, are earning a living wage by teaching yoga to people who otherwise would not have the opportunity.
