Thank you for visiting my Africa Yoga Ambassador Campaign page!

My name is Mónica Blundell, you can call me Moni :), and I am a pre-med student and yoga instructor in New York City, originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have been practicing yoga for 8 years, Baptiste yoga for over a year, and have successfully completed 300 hours of Baptiste Teacher Training. I love practicing and teaching yoga for its strengthening and stress-relieving benefits. I am especially in love with the way my yoga practice serves as a playground, and a safe space to work through challenges, both physical and emotional, that show up in my body and life. The time I spend on my mat is precious and I love how each practice is different and always teaches me something new about myself and my body. I love spreading this passion and awareness to my students, as well!

One of my greatest dreams in life is to become a surgeon and conduct emergency relief work internationally in disaster areas and areas of high conflict. The path towards becoming a doctor, and then a surgeon, is long and grueling and while I am very determined, medical school and surgical residencies are highly competitive, and there is no guarantee I will make it into these programs; Never mind any of the unexpected life occurrences that may stand in the way of my achieving these goals and steer me towards a different path.

Regardless of how my goals take shape, I am driven by the desire to help people live more healthfully and ease suffering worldwide. I am so grateful to have a powerful yoga practice that enables me to start helping people NOW while I patiently work towards achieving my goals in medicine. Yoga is such an effective tool that can be used preventively to maintain good health, improve overall health, and as Africa Yoga Project demonstrates, yoga builds community and provides financial independence for its instructors. This has far-reaching positive effects on the overall health and well-being of families, communities, and even countries!

I love AYP’s mission and the immediacy of its programs, and as an Ambassador for the organization, I commit to raising $10,000 to support ongoing programs, as well as support program expansion. There is so much meaningful work to be done and I want to make it happen!

After reaching my $10K fundraising goal, I look forward to traveling to Shine Center, AYP’s hub in Nairobi, Kenya, to see first hand all of the amazing work that is being done, meet the dedicated staff members and volunteers, attend workshops led by the community, and conduct my own workshop in goal setting.

Thank you for your support in reaching this goal! I acknowledge your generosity and commitment to sharing wealth, health, well-being, and love. In addition to supporting communities in East Africa you are supporting your immediate community by fostering our connection to humanity. You are a leader and world change-maker. Thank you for being a part of something greater!
