Team Next Generation Yoga
In June 2013, 17 yogis from the United States and Canada, united together as Team Next Generation Yoga for Africa Yoga Project. Together, we fundraised over $100,000, delivered a 6-day NGY Teacher Training for over 60 AYP Teachers, and shared yoga with hundreds of children in Nairobi & Amboseli, Kenya. What we saw, felt & experienced during our 2-week ambassador program with AYP was beyond what any of us could have ever imagined.
Stepping off the bus into Mathare, the oldest informal settlement in Nairobi, we were greeted by a sea of smiling children, eager to show us inside their school. Their simple classrooms were illuminated with magnificent light from the children’s bright spirits. They were so open with their love and enthusiasm. It was contagious. This was not the only place we felt such joyful spirits. We observed Next Generation Yoga Founder, Jodi Komitor, and NGY & AYP Teachers lead yoga classes to children at Langata Women’s Prison, Tree House Orphanage, School for Visually Impaired Children, and in a Masai Village where we all experienced this same powerful connection. Reminding us of what truly matters … it is not what you have, where you live, or what you do in life. It is what you share from your heart that connects us all.
Inspired by our 2-week life-changing journey with AYP, Team NGY is committed to expanding its members and continuing to be of service. Whether it be through teacher training, lesson plans or fundraising for materials or the salary for a Kids Yoga Coordinator ~ we aim to meet the specific needs that are desired by the AYP Teachers and organization. It is Team NGY’s’ mission to support the AYP Teachers in using Next Generation Yoga materials & methodology, with the children they teach, in meaningful & impactful ways.
Thank you deeply for your financial contribution … your donation is going towards AYP’s children’s yoga program. Specifically, monies raised from Team NGY for AYP will bring joyful, playful, self-expressive yoga to children in schools, orphanages, informal settlements and various communities in Kenya.
Together We Are One.
