“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” ~ Winston Churchill

I did not like yoga in the beginning.  I didn’t like the classes (and I tried many).  I didn’t like the environment (especially the sound of a particular jingly little anklet).  I didn’t like anything about it.   But I really wanted to.  I even secretly wanted to be yogini enough to don a jingly bracelet myself some day.

As much as I resisted the practice, I knew, that if I could just ditch my pre-conceived notions, and if I could figure out what, “focus on your breath,” meant, that I too, could cross over.

Then I attended Level I – and I have never looked back.

It was there that I reconnected with my 30-year-ago self, my 20-year-ago self, and my present self; realizing that all along, we’ve been the same fun-loving person. Since then I have attended Level II and become the resident yoga instructors for teachers on campus at the American School in Mexico City.  I absolutely love it.

When I was five or six, my fascination with Africa was born. And like any great force, the attraction has grown with time (I like to think of it as being mutual).  It wasn’t an idea that needed planting; but instead, was always part of the plan.

The choice to apply for the Ambassador position with AYP had been in the back of my mind for some time.  I kept dancing the when-I-finish ___(fill in the blank)___ I-will-be-ready-dance.  Until one night I put down my soup spoon (literally) and filled out the application.  I am excited to bring my love of learning, of challenge, and of adventure to AYP.  I look forward to volunteering in Kenya, and establishing a life-long, face-to-face, heart-to-heart connection with the community.  I hope I can inspire you to be of contribution as well.

I will be raising funds by facilitating a Monday Night Yoga (on the roof) here in Mexico City, by selling beautiful hand crafted cards, and I’ll be working on some other fun ideas as well.  If your idea of a win-win is to donate directly, you can do so below.   A sincere thank you, from my heart.

If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. ~ African proverb
